wave upon wave

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to do some camping and backpacking on the west coast of Vancouver Island. I love being out in God's creation and exploring new places. This was my first experience of actually camping on the beach and I loved it! Apart from the comfort of sleeping on a sandy bed, rather than a rocky one, I really enjoyed hearing the waves rolling onto shore all night long. It is so peaceful and soothing, and there isn't a time that it all just stops. One wave comes in and is followed by another, and another...

It reminded me of something I once heard about God's grace...that it comes to us like wave upon wave, like grace upon grace. John 1:16 "From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another." God's favour comes in ever-new streams. What the followers of Christ draw from the ocean of divine fullness is grace upon grace--one wave of grace being constantly replaced by a fresh one. There is no limit to the supply of grace that God has given for his people through Christ.

I need God's grace just like those waves continually come to shore, constantly being replaced by a fresh one. As I daily come to God I see the ways, both big and small, in which I fall short and need his forgiveness. I am so thankful for his grace and blessings in my life that come like wave upon wave.
